Tlingit house post totem pole illustrating the theme “Respect for Self” on display at the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage, Alaska. The Alaska Native Heritage Center is an educational and cultural institution celebrating Native Alaskan cultural groups. The human figure, in clan hat and bound by Salmon, represents the Self. It is self which is supported by spiritual presence of Raven in the Chilkat robe. Eagle emerging, Frog voice of the spiritual world and brown bear representing strength of the Tlingit culture. The spirit faces throughout the design represent the ancestors that are the true foundation of the strength of the Tlingit Self.
