This was one of three images, (PHIL# 9135 - 9137), depicting an attempt by a toy manufacturer to produce a toy character which displayed characteristics that emulated those of a mobility-challenged person who was a wheelchair user. This disabled character was portrayed in the manner that echoed the style of the rest of their toy line. In doing so, the manufacturer tried to, in a sense, mainstream the knowledge of what is faced by the disabled in the real world through play, and therefore, was as educational, as it was entertaining to the childhood end user demographic group. PHIL image 9137, showed Ron Mace looking through a door in the playhouse. © Center for Universal Design/CDC. MHE World.
